Check photo metadata before sharing a copy

Review supported tags attached to the image, then decide what belongs in a sharing copy. Keep the original when its capture information matters to you. Your files never leave your device.

What this page helps you do

Inspect supported photo metadata and make a sharing copy without carrying the source's EXIF, GPS, XMP or IPTC fields into the new file. This helps you decide what information to keep in your own archive and what to omit from a shared copy.

How to use the result

Read the detected fields, then export a clean copy. The tool redraws decoded pixels and applies orientation; PNG or transparent inputs use PNG, while opaque images can be re-encoded as JPEG.

Before you rely on it

  • Inspect the clean copy's orientation, colours and visible detail.
  • Check the picture itself for addresses, documents, faces or other information you did not mean to share.

Limit to keep in mind: This tool handles images, not PDF properties. JPEG re-encoding can change detail, and removing metadata does not anonymize what is visibly photographed.

Inspect the file you will actually share

A photo may carry coordinates, capture times, camera identifiers or editing information. Some images contain very few of these fields. Missing or edited metadata does not establish where or when a picture was taken.

Platform behaviour varies. A photo sent through another app should not be assumed to have the same fields as your original, or to have lost all of them. Review the actual sharing file.

Understand the removal method

The tool redraws decoded pixels into a new file without copying source EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, comments or embedded previews. The encoder still creates format headers and may include colour information.

The visible picture remains. A face, parcel label, document number or reflection can reveal information even after embedded fields have been omitted.

Keep an original and review the new copy

Orientation is applied to the pixels before the source tag is discarded. Reopen the saved image to check that it is upright and that its colour and detail are suitable.

PNG inputs and supported images with transparency export as PNG. Other opaque supported images export as JPEG at quality 0.95. JPEG re-encoding can change detail, and animation is not preserved.

Frequently asked questions

Will the result contain literally no metadata?
No. Source metadata blocks are not copied, but image formats require structural information and the browser encoder may add colour data. Treat the result as a new sharing copy.
Is JPEG metadata removed without recompression?
This tool decodes and redraws the picture. Its JPEG output is re-encoded at quality 0.95 and can change detail. Keep the original if exact preservation matters.
Which files can be processed?
The accepted image types include JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP, AVIF and HEIC/HEIF, subject to browser decoding. HEIC support depends on the device, browser and file variant.
Does this also remove PDF metadata?
No. This tool handles image files. PDF properties and document contents require a separate workflow.
Is a photo uploaded for inspection?
No. Supported tags are read and the image is processed in your browser. Inspect the visible picture as well as the detected fields before sharing.
