Portrait background
Put a person against a white background
Use the people-focused helper for a solid backdrop, then check the portrait carefully. A background edit alone cannot establish acceptance for an official application. Your files never leave your device.
Government passport & visa photos(tap to read)
YoursToUse does not guarantee acceptance. Many authorities ban digital background alteration. Prefer shooting on a real white wall. See official rules: Australia (opens in a new tab, keeping your photo here), Canada (opens in a new tab, keeping your photo here), UK (opens in a new tab, keeping your photo here), US (opens in a new tab, keeping your photo here). This helper is for photos of one person (forms, print prep) — not a biometric compliance guarantee. With two or more people in frame the cutout follows the main subject, and background between them can survive; check the result before using it.
Product or mockup photo?
For apparel mockups, products, and transparent PNG cutouts, use Remove background (opens in a new tab, keeping your photo here) instead — this page is reserved for people / white-backdrop results.

What this page helps you do
Create a copy of a portrait with a solid white background for a permitted form, profile or document layout. The preview lets you see how the cutout handles the subject before you use the export.
How to use the result
Start with a sharp photo in which the person is clearly separated from the background. Run the background replacement, then inspect the outline and white fill rather than relying only on the small preview.
Before you rely on it
- Zoom in on hair, ears, glasses and clothing edges for missing areas or a visible halo.
- Read the destination's editing rules before using a digitally replaced background for an application.
Limit to keep in mind: AI segmentation can remove part of the subject or leave background fragments. A white fill does not correct lighting, pose or an ineligible source photograph.
Read the editing rule before replacing a backdrop
Passport and visa authorities can restrict digital background replacement. Use a real permitted backdrop when the route requires it, and follow the current rules for that particular application.
Pure white is #FFFFFF, or RGB 255, 255, 255. Off-white and other specified colours are different requirements; the destination’s wording takes priority over a generic preset.
Use one clearly visible person
The workflow is designed around a single main subject. Multiple people can leave unwanted background between them or around overlapping outlines.
Review the finished image at full size. A smaller preview can hide rough boundaries and missed patches that will be noticeable in the saved photo.
Treat background and file rules separately
A solid fill does not check head position, expression, lighting or identity-photo eligibility. The crop, final pixels and file-size limits may still need separate attention.
Use the general-subject Remove Background tool for product shots, mockups and other objects rather than expecting the portrait workflow to handle every subject equally.

Frequently asked questions
- Does a white backdrop guarantee passport acceptance?
- No. Capture conditions, framing, appearance and editing restrictions still apply. Use this helper only when the application permits the change.
- What colour does the white option use?
- Pure white is #FFFFFF, or RGB 255, 255, 255. Follow the exact colour wording when the destination specifies something else.
- Can I use a group photograph?
- The tool is designed for one main person. A group can leave background patches or imperfect outlines; choose an appropriate source and inspect the result.
- Why does a model need to download?
- Application and model assets must load before local processing. They may download again after the cache is cleared. The selected portrait contents are processed on the device.
- Which tool should I use for a product cutout?
- Use Remove Background for products, apparel mockups and general subjects, including transparent PNG cutouts.
